How to get yourself, your home and your pet ready for the pet sitter

Pet sitter at home

PawSpace has finally managed to find you your perfect pet sitter with whom you are satisfied. What’s next? Before you leave home to run errands, we suggest you note the below-given steps, so you, your pet and the sitter have a seamless experience.

It’s essential to make your pet’s stay with their sitter as worry-free, fun and comfortable as possible. To do so, keep reading!

Having your sitter home when you’re away can be both exciting as well as confusing for your cat or dog. Both you and your pet may experience separation anxiety if you are first-timers. However, PawSpace sitters have the perfect tricks up their sleeves to shoo all blues away!

First, make sure to share as much information as possible with your pet sitter and, most importantly – how they can cheer up your pet. It can be as simple as playing fetch or a nice treat.

In addition to communicating well with your sitter, here are some simple yet essential steps that you must take to prepare your pet for sitting –

  • Pack their favourite bag of goodies and treats – Although your pet is home, they may miss their favourite members. Pack some of their favourite treats and toys and provide the sitter with them to uplift their mood.
  • Provide feeding instructions – A short note is good enough; mention your pet’s food and treats – when they can be given and how much. If your pet is on any medication or supplements, make sure to note that down, too, with details about how and when to administer. Although most of this is discussed during Meet and Greet sessions, it’s best to leave a short note for your pet sitter about your pet’s needs so everyone is on the same page.
  • Provide your sitter with emergency contact information – It is advised to provide your sitter with a kin’s or friend’s contact number in case they cannot reach you at a time of emergency. It is also helpful to mention the contact information of your pet’s vet.
  • Inform your pet sitter about your pet’s medical history – Even if your pet isn’t currently sick, your sitter needs to know about any pre-existing health conditions such as vomiting or diarrhoea, so they know what to look out for.
  • Inform your sitter about house rules for your pet – Let your pet sitter know about the house rules that your pet must adhere to (for example – no sitting on the couch, no getting on furniture, etc.) You may also mention the feeding schedule to be followed along with the required number of walks that your pet needs, potty breaks and the do’s and don’ts that your pet must follow.
  • Pack their favourite bag of goodies and treats – Although your pet is home, they may miss their favourite members. Pack some of their favourite treats and toys and provide the sitter with them to uplift their mood.
  • Keep the medications, food and other essential supplies in one location – It’s critical to understand that your pet sitter is in a new environment at the time of the session. So, it is essential to keep them comfortable too. Ensure to keep all food to be fed to your pet, medications or supplements (if required), and other supplies such as a food bowl and walking leash in a single, easily located place.
